A Long Goodbye
When I Die...

Bury me tall as a tree...
so I can kiss the sky goodnight.
Plant me on the hill...
so I can never lose you.
Let me keep my promise...
to be with you always.
I will wait for you on the horizon...
and guide you through the seasons yet to come.
I will root my love in memories...
so you may find shelter beneath its canopy.
***
Lay with me in the light of a summer’s day...
like we used to.
Bask in the warmth of our stories...
under the glow of a winter’s night.
Listen for my voice in the rustle of my leaves,
and I shall sing for you every spring.
Catch my kisses on the wind....
I will fall for you every autumn.
***
For every season that passes,
our love will continue to grow.

This one feels like a breath of fresh air! Beautifully written. 😊
Well wrought, Simon. I can see people wanting this printed inside every funeral folder & read at every funeral service from now to the end of time. And our cemeteries shall become forests of blessing.
