A Little Ghost's Quest
A Poem On Happiness
Prologue
For Mikeydred’s Octoberon challenge
Joy is in the small things and places you may not see.

The little ghost floated through the night air,
Wandered here, roamed over there,
Her name was Val, blur her guise,
She searched for joy, which seemed to hide.
___________________________________
‘I’ve searched the halls, combed the stairs,
Ploughed the hails and corn fields fair,
I’ve toured the hills, steep and high,
But the joy I want never comes by.”
___________________________________
She went through towns where live souls roamed,
Scoured the lanes which they called home
Heard their laughs, saw their fears,
But the joy she longed for never drew near.

“I must find it,” she called, soft and low,
“I'll keep searching till it shows.”
Perhaps it lies beneath th Earth
A rare treasure of great worth.”
___________________________________
She asked the souls among the graves,
Some kind spirits, unkind knaves,
She quizzed the spectres resting there
“Where is joy? Where, oh where?”
___________________________________
One ghoul answered, her smile thin,
Her finger pointed, small as sin.
“Joy, it lies where you can”t see,
Not in big homes or monied glee.”
___________________________________
Val then roamed, now lost in thought,
She searched in places never sought
In flowered fields, babbling brooks,
In thankful hugs, unseen nooks.
___________________________________
But here’s a twist, tale never told,
As Val found joy, her form grew cold.
She had grasped at joy too tight,
And must fade into the night
___________________________________
Val’s now a whisper, her voice too thin
She strains to call from graves within
“Joy’s not always where you seek,
But in small treasures, places meek.”
