A Life of Love at First Sight
A poem that rhymes.
A crowded club,
on a Friday night.
Alcohol,
and flashing light.
Eyes were locked,
words were said.
Later on,
in my bed,
We spun tales,
of lives and dreams.
Distant mothers,
football teams.
Love at first sight
is what we said.
Six months later,
alone in bed.
Second love,
too intense.
Instant flames,
no innocence.
Showed me darkness,
pleasure in pain.
Flipped my mind,
effed my brain.
Loving hands
turned to fists.
Two black eyes,
while we kissed.
Police lights,
that’s the end.
Scars to heal,
wounds to mend.
A third love,
we met at work.
Different eyes,
same work shirt.
Inside jokes and,
loving ways.
Shared our scars,
and DNAs.
Nine months later,
body growing.
Couldn’t take it,
colors showing.
Almost a year,
and then the flight.
Abandoned again,
by love at first sight.
Bitter spirals,
trying to cope.
Losing sleep and
losing hope.
Screams in the night,
that ancient pain.
Did it alone,
chose his name.
Wrinkly head,
tiny arms.
Opened his eyes,
and there it was.
The blossom of warmth,
the flash of light.
The only way,
for love at first sight.
