Shine your light on my hopes

A Letter to the Moon

Dear Moon, I write this letter softly,

with trembling hands and hopeful eyes,

for you are closer to heaven than I am,

and you shine where my voice cannot reach.

I have watched you all my life,

in awe of the glow you carry gently,

and many nights I dreamed beneath your light,

trusting you with secrets I never spoke.

Tonight I ask you for one small thing,

a wish that rises from my aching heart,

please will you find my mam and dad in heaven,

and shine your quiet loving light upon them.

Tell them Christmas feels colder now,

the lights dim softer without their warmth,

and though I try to smile with others,

my tears still fall when no one sees.

Ask them if they still look down on me,

if they send their love through gentle signs,

like the sudden calm that fills my room,

or the warmth that finds me in the night.

Let them know I still need their strength,

their comfort, their laughter, their care,

and when my sadness reaches my skin,

I hope they are near enough to hold me.

Dear Moon, you have heard so many prayers,

yet tonight I offer mine with trembling hope,

that you will carry my love to where they rest,

and whisper it softly into their hands.

For I have lived and dreamed in your light,

and now I dream you will give something back,

you who watches this world with tender eyes,

please let them feel how much I love them.

I remember mornings warm with their smiles,

the gentle touch of mam’s careful hands,

the quiet steadiness of dad’s strong voice,

and how their presence made the world calm.

I wonder if they see me now,

if they smile at the things I have become,

if they know how much I long for them,

even in the moments I pretend I do not.

The night feels heavy without their touch,

and yet I speak to you, Moon, in trust,

for your light is patient and your heart is wide,

and you have listened to countless sorrows before.

Please carry my love across the distance,

to the warmth that waits beyond my eyes,

and let them know each beat of my heart

is shaped by the love they left behind.

Even when the world grows dark and quiet,

I will look to you to guide my words,

and in your silver glow, I will believe

that they feel my longing as I do.

Stay with me in these soft and lonely hours,

keep watch when tears fall without sound,

and guide this letter across the endless sky,

so I can feel their presence near again.

And when the night folds all its shadows,

I whisper your names into the silver light,

and hope my mam and dad can feel me near,

their love returning through the quiet sky.
