Dear Death,
Why do you take away what's most precious to us?
Why do you leave behind only sorrow and dust?
You come uninvited, unwelcome, yet always sure
Taking away what we hold dear, what we cannot endure
You took away my loved one, my shining star
Leaving me with only tears, only scars
I wish I could turn back time, wish I could say
"Take me instead, leave them to live another day"
But you don't listen, you don't care
You take away, and leave us with only pain
You're a thief in the night, a robber of joy
Leaving behind only sorrow, only anguish
Why do you do this, Death? Why must you take?
Can't you see the pain you cause the heart to bear?
Is it too much to ask, to let us live a little longer?
To let us cherish what we have, to love a little stronger?
But I know you won't answer, I know you won't reply
You'll just keep taking, until the day I die
And so I'll hold on to memories, to the past
And weep for what could have been, for what will never last.
Yours sorrowfully. 😭
