A Home of Hope and Memories
By Cleve
A fig tree in a large pot by our door
Is rife with fruit that ripens each day
And brings smiles to my better half
As she harvests a handful of treats
Sure to brighten her day
The sewing machine used by Mom
And by my grandmom too
Welcomes me into the living room
And to past memories of flour sack shirts
For each of her brood
Likenesses of children and their children
Populate shelves and tabletop space
Reminders of the past and promises
Of a beneficent future for each rendering
Of a smiling face
And late in the evening and encroaching
On the morn, a book in hand neath
A solitary light
Two chapters of book
And two fingers of single malt
Underlines hearth and home
And pleasant measures of life
But woven throughout in each and every room
Is comfort in the knowledge that it has been my fate
And good fortune to share hand in hand
Co-equally, this home, with my forever lifemate
