It’s easy to be kind to others, it costs nothing.

Turning that kindness inward is difficult and expensive.

Many people like her, she’s kind.

But what they like is at the surface.

Of the real her, they are blind.

She learned long ago about how little kindness is in the world.

Absorbing so much negativity and abuse takes its toll.

But instead of destroying her, she chose a new mission, to not leave anyone out in the cold.

She’s always been different, not quite fitting society’s mold.

It gets lonely at times, but letting people in just feels too bold.

She learned the hard way that people don’t love the way she does.

If she lets people in they either find her to be too much, not enough, or they take what they want.

In the end she’s found that everybody leaves.

Yet she carries on pouring her too much into her family, her friends, her loved ones, to her career she cleaves.

There’s just too much in her heart, yet somehow she’s still struggling to keep some love for herself.

Each time someone gets close, that fear sets in. A question on her mind, “how long until I’m left in the cold?”

But even as doubt lingers, hope grows. Inside her heart whispers, “it’s ok to be bold.”

One day they will see you and want to nothing more than to stay.
