A flower takes time to bloom.
Its roots have to grow deep, strengthened in the soil.
The right mixture of sunshine and water deepen the green of the leaves.
The stalk thickens.
Little by little a small bud begins to appear amidst the leaves.
Slowly emerging, unfurling in bright colored beauty.
A pretty blossom stretching to meet the sun and greet the world.
For a moment there is pure happiness.
Then the world seems to notice, reacting with a violence, as if something so beautiful doesn’t belong.
Bugs chew at the leaves and make holes in the petals.
The sun beats down turning the bright colors a brittle brown.
Then the wind whips through shaking the stalk, the weakened blossom shedding its beauty. Petals falling like tears to the earth below.
Yet below the roots are deep and strong, urging to keep on, no matter how many happy fleeting moments pass.
The flowers will return as long as there is care taken to battle the damage caused by the world.
Small beautiful moments are worth the wait, but are not without struggle.
