A Goodbye, A Hello
Out with the old, in with the new

As another year ends, a new year begins,
A blank slate of 365 days,
Step up to the pitch, bat with spontaneity,
Start the new year with a bang as the fireworks blaze.
***
No major new year resolutions,
It’s time to jump in with both feet,
Start from day one, move out of your comfort zone,
Never accept defeat.
***
Live each day in a heartbeat,
Blood racing to follow your passion,
Smile when you least feel like it,
Be gentle, find your compassion.
***
Say yes to all that life offers,
Breeze through the burns with freeing ease,
Smash into those grand gestures,
Do anything you please.
***
Don’t take no for answer,
Stampede while the rest of the world is hiding,
Shelter from the judgements,
Strengthen with the pain, rather than dividing.
***
Bang hard on your own drum,
Convincing yourself you’re more than deserving,
Do, feel, be, live, love,
Take charge, lead the way, do more than just observing.
***
Greet each day with authenticity,
Ride the hours from dawn to dust,
Leave the night in blissful relaxation,
Take time out, if you must.
***
Speak in a shout for those that need you,
Advocate for the unfortunate in need of help,
Draw in the empathy, the spiritually uniform,
Hear the cries and the lonely yelps.
***
Stand strong in life’s hurricane,
Believe, you’ll do all that is necessary,
Take heart, open it wide,
Love your enemy, your adversary.
***
No new year resolution,
Just your best effort at the end of the day,
Be you, be real, be true,
And love yourself come what may.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
