A Good Start

How I Remember It

You smiled at me

I felt warmth in my face.

You approached slowly.

I felt my heart race.

*

You told me your name,

and I told you mine.

You ordered a beer,

and paid for my wine.

*

Soon, an awkward start

became a fun night.

Chatting like old friends

felt natural and right.

*

I wanted you then.

You wanted me too.

We left hand in hand ~

What else could we do?

*

Too bad these thoughts

are all in my head.

You won't ever know

where that ev'ning led.

*

Just maybe someday,

the mem'ries will be

for both of us,

based in reality.

That was such a bittersweet twist at the end.
