A Good Morning, Indeed

It's the little things.

The gurgle and sputter of the spent stream

And the rich aroma, promising potency

Steal their way into my space, here in my writer's nook,

Heralding a cup full of black bliss.

~~

Just a few more lines! Finish the paragraph!

~~

My relentless mind pushes and prods.

Still heavy with sleep, my eyes blur the cascade of characters,

Though I know the words, my words,

The words that keep the wolves from the door.

~~

Bills to pay! Two more to write today!

~~

I deny myself the time for the trek,

All of twenty steps, twenty seconds of precious pause.

While you slumber, it's my time to toil.

The keys tick, trained to my touch.

~~

Air currents shift subtly. Nerves tingle under neck hairs.

The sweet scent of you dispels the drudgery.

Magically, the cup comes in to view.

Steam rises, warmth brushes my hand.

~~

Familiar arms drape over my stiff shoulders, clasping.

Your soft lips brush my neck, nuzzling

Their way to my ear, exhaling,

“Good Morning.”

~~

Wrapped in you, my world rights itself.

I feel like I'm intruding on your morning in a voyeuristic way - wonderful 😁

Fabulous! You wrapped up a writer's morning very nicely!

  • "The best part of waking up...," may not be Folgers in your cup (I never learned to like coffee), but I still find the aroma intoxicating & I always did resonate with those commercials! And the way you shift from smell to the touch that brings the aroma to you, beautiful Loved it. Simply loved it.

  • From the coffee to the good morning this was great. Really good poem

Stay out of my head! ;)

I love the way you wrote this with the pauses and interrupting thoughts. I am the opposite. I’m a morning person, naturally waking up before the sun with no alarm clock. I need caffeine to stay awake past 9 pm.
