A Friend of Mine

A poem with rhyme

By Lily MunozPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
A picture of me being told to smile by my friend

I have a friend

Worth more than the moon

I can depend

On through any gloom .

When my parents fought

And almost split ,

It left bitter thoughts

Broke my spirit .

Money was scarce ,

Costs overwhelming ,

Many repairs

Needed attending

My job took my life

Out of my hands .

It took so much time,

Filled with demands

One day at work

After mistreatment ,

I went berserk

I couldn't take it .

I quit in a rage .

Crying profusely,

Belittled and shamed

Heart broke within me

There's a place I go ,

When I'm saddened

Where flowers grow:

Lowe's outdoor garden

Park and get out

But I'm such a mess ,

Leave the car without

My keys, I confess .

My family's gone

So I call a friend ,

Who knew something's wrong

Without it said .

She comes right away ,

Hugs me real tight

Tears pour down my face

It'll be alright .

We go take a walk

At a beautiful park

With a clear blue lake

And ducks in a flock .

We talk then pause ,

To take in the sight

Watch the birds in flight

Young geese and swans .

Then off we go

To eat all we want

At a nice restaurant

On the patio .

Treats me to lunch

Aware that I'm poor

Tells me to order

Plenty to munch

I had the best

Dessert of my life

With that friend of mine,

Feeling at rest

She made me laugh

And feel accepted

Loved and respected

Really needed that

We went to my car

And could open it!

It wasn't as hard

As I expected .

But that's not all

My friend has done.

In ways big and small

She's helped a ton .

She's been a driver

To my mom and I ,

Took us to a doctor

At a rough time .

It means the world

To not be alone

When problems swirl

I just need a phone .

I'll do the same :

Listen when she needs ,

Help her stay sane

As she has for me .
