A Fight To The End

The roar in the background annoys, until she realises it’s made up of the thoughts within her head,

The darkness threatens to escape, to wreak havoc, leaving her no time to prepare,

Louder, closer, harsher, demanding attention, demanding she listen,

Her heart threatens to explode, racing the hot blood through her veins — intimidating to scare.

She tampers down the volume, begging for the roar to become a purr,

To whisper thoughts lovingly, soothingly, even pretending to care,

But she finds no great success as the volume inches higher,

Torment and painful screams making sure she’s self-aware.

Maybe if she closes her eyes and faces the darkness,

Ignoring the loud burst of sound that hollers in despair,

Whining on and on, decimals exploding, until her ears threaten to burst,

And still the noise continues to escalate, regardless of her prayer.

She changes tactic, standing silently and listening to the roar,

Opening her heart to the messages her thoughts put out there,

Rifling through to find the hidden meaning, the root of it all,

Those underlying issues her mind was hesitant to share.

******

As the sun goes down upon the constant chatter, and the darkness dissipates into the night,

She flicks an internal switch spilling earth-shattering light everywhere,

And dances away the last of the shadows lingering within,

Trusting her innate ability to administer the much needed repair.

******

She moves forward, diligently ignoring the cacophony of residual sound,

Allowing destiny to feather the future in whichever way it should declare,

She has forfeited the fight with her demons, not needing the world to witness a win,

Now any nemesis who dare to take her on; be warned or beware!
