A Few Simple Words Gave Me My Freedom
I can only say thank you
I saw this quote today and it all suddenly made sense.
“Thank you for letting go as I wouldn’t have walked away”
**********************************************************************
I often write of heartbreak and tears
And the lessons this has taught me,
Then I found some simple words
That made sense and set me free.
***
A simple quote, a few simple words
“Thank you for letting me go,
As I wouldn’t have walked away”
You’ve done me a favour, I know.
***
I couldn’t see it past the pain
But reading that simple saying,
Put it all in better perspective
The silver lining it’s portraying.
***
I can now travel with a lighter heart
I can see what you’ve done is right,
We were meant to crash and burn
Hence why you never put up a fight.
***
So instead of my anger, my pain
Or my regret and my remorse,
I can instead say thank you
For insisting we change course.
***
Now I can send you my gratitude
With my final word, “goodbye,”
I’ll dry my tears, harden my heart
And move forward with my life.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
