A Drunk Poem for You
Something about ants and healthy love.

I thought it was a queen ant
pregnant with her babes
and saved her on the edge of a napkin…
Scooped her up and
let her crawl across my fingers…
returned her outside
where I pictured her laying her eggs
under an open lavender sky.
An hour later it returned.
You recognized it as a bull ant
and killed him instantly
soon as he approached
while explaining to me how much they hurt.
That’s it. That’s the whole poem.

Love the juxtaposition between to worlds of thought. Very creative Em!
I like how quickly the tone shifts with "and killed him instantly", and how all the hopefulness of the beginning was snuffed out just like that!
Gentle hope meets harsh reality in such a simple, perfect moment. Loved it.
Oh this was brill Em.
This is great, Em. Love this <3
This is the stuff that poetry is made of. Loved the cover pic too
