A Deep Dark Night in the Jungle

A deep dark night in the jungle breathes,

Where vines hang low like secret dreams,

While stars look down in broken streams.

Each step is slow, each sound uncertain,

Each heartbeat loud, fierce and proud.

A serpent moves, the leaves are trembling,

The forest hums with something near,

A distant call of something hunting,

A splash beneath the river’s skin,

The night becomes a breathing creature,

Alive with everything within.

The eyes of beasts reflect the firelight,
