Battles rage in the present day.
Breakfast in the morning.
A breakfast teacup bears witness to war.
Battles that tear—but do not define.

Teacup
Morning ritual, bliss
Breakfast sip, chipped
Porcelain sides crumble
Currents rippling through Earl Grey tea
Fallen
Teacup
Cracks in the perfect porcelain
White chips, small and silent
Shimmer in the light
Still joined.

As I've started over so many times in life with nothing but what's fit in a vehicle, I don't have much that's "survived". Most things are newly bought. But I can understand the sentimental value of things that have been through the tough stuff, even if they bear the scars to prove it. Excellent poem.
I do have a chipped mug. My dad glued the chipped piece and I'm still using it. It's more than 15 years old
This is so beautiful - makes me think of Kintsugi art (repairing broken ceramics with gold seam work). I resonate with the love of an object that has lasted through changing seasons...for me, I think of a battered old keychain of a LEGO king! It seems a little silly, but he's been with me since childhood and been affixed to many different backpacks over the years. I find it beautiful how objects can become precious just by their lasting presence, and this poem has done a marvelous job reflecting on that!

I can think of little that’s made its way through the changes in my life, but you’ve written a lovely meditation on the idea
