A Country Ablaze
A poem from the heart: Australian Bushfires 2019-2020

As fires engulf the nation
It’s hard to comprehend
How we have been forsaken
By the government at hand
Our countrymen are falling
Coated in ash, sweat and tears
Fighting a war with mother nature
That’s been brewing in her belly for years
A raw result of negligence
And ignorance, at its best
Too late to save our wildlife
They never stood a chance
We are crying, we are angry
Outrage fills our lungs
Through smoke screened towns, burnt to a crisp
Fleeing to the water, with our young
This should not be our lives
In the golden country of Oz
It’s time for us to take control
And fight against what’s wrong
We are the country of battlers
Of sunburn and true blue’s
But how do we continue fighting
When our leader continues to refuse?
To acknowledge the times
To assist the helpless
To show that he bloody well cares!
These are trying times for our country, indeed
Times once only in our worst nightmares
So enough’s, enough
Says I and the rest
It’s time to get out
Put your weary head to rest
ScoMo, it’s time to go!
Get on your bike and leave us to our own
We’ve made it this far, without you and your co
You know it’s the truth, time to stop the show!
Let the dust settle, and from the ashes, I hope we will see a true leader rise
For the phoenix often spreads its wings, and heals from it’s demise
Australians, we are better than this; we are a united, courageous front line
We have hearts bigger than the sun, so it’s time to let them shine.
