A Castaway Of The Sea

Carried safely to the land of man

There’s an entire city floating under the sea

A city made of merpeople, living peacefully,

Families loving life, friends enjoying the days

Ups and downs, living and laughing naturally.

***

Until after one particularly brutal current

Swept in destroying the underwater world,

Abodes, rock crevices and coral fortresses

All toss and turn through the ocean whirls.

***

There were so many survivors, thankfully

However, they have been swept out to sea,

In every given direction, they’re lost to all

As they’ll never return once they are free.

***

Families separated, forcefully torn asunder

Loved ones left reeling, not knowing for sure,

If those they love are lost or did they perish

Grieving and feeling they’re gone for evermore.

***

One mermaid lost track of her tiny cherub

Her small babe violently torn from her arms,

But unbeknown to this tormented new mother

Her little one is safely sleeping and unharmed.

***

The ocean currents were gentle on the babe

Tossing him softly towards the surface of the sea,

Where he’s landed sleeping on a floating leaf

Carried to the land of man, in with all the debris.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Oh this was lovely! I do feel bad for his poor mam though. Afraid I can't comment on your FB post at the moment (I copped a Facebook ban for saying something stupid!) but I'll appreciate it a lot if you reciprocate.
