A Brief New Legend of Muses and Musings

"All the children sing!"

By A. S. LawrencePublished 11 months ago 1 min read

There once was a goddess, whose responsibility it was to make the artists on Earth productive and exciting. In an era of decay and corruption, her favorite musician lost his love and fell into a spiral of depression and lethargy. He rarely wrote or created or sang. She lamented his abstention, and searched for ways to rekindle his heart.

This goddess happened to be the daughter of the most high, the King of the heavens. The King knew that this lamentably unproductive man was in love with his daughter, so he helped her develop a plan.

She went down to the people, and revealed herself to this man. He was struck with love. She told him that she would be his lover on Earth for a year, on several conditions.

He would have no memory of the year. He could only keep the music he made about the experience. In other words, his only memories would be the sounds and lyrics he wrote during that year. To make sure the music would be listenable and not just a boring diary, she offered that upon the conclusion of his mortal life, he would receive all the time that people devoted to listening to or thinking about his music, and he could use that time to be with her in the heavens.
