A Bear! Where?
Wondered into our camp site, what a fright!

I love visiting the BWCA
the Boundary Waters Canoe Area!
I was there when a bear came into camp.
My brother-in-law chased him up a ramp.
Okay, not really, but up a long path!
Halfway up he realized there could be rath!
on that path, or there will be an ending.
Whose ending will it be? He stopped right then.
He came back to camp; we were all bending.
Packing up gear to head out where and when,
we didn’t know. It was beautiful there!
After, I wasn’t worried about bear!

"Maple Syrup"
One of my favorite seasons
A favorite time of the year
Our weather in Minnesota
would probably produce a
little maple syrup right now,
a time when some bears take a bow
stripping the bark and eating
on the sapwood. It is freezing
at night and above freezing during
the day. Odd weather for here, but
last year our winter was long and cut
down on animals in the wild
I like to see bears when it is mild.

An Ode To Snow, Water and Life
The ode is a poetic form formed for flattery. There are three types of odes: the Horation; the Pindaric; and the Irregular. The Horation ode (named for the Latin poet, Horace) contains one stanza pattern that repeats throughout the poem--usually 2 or 4 lines. The Pindaric ode (named for the Greek poet, Pindar) comprises a pattern of three stanzas called triads. This type of ode can be composed of several triads, still the first (the strophe) and the second (antistrophe) should be identical metrically with the third (epode) wandering off on its metrical path. The Fairy Dance
Introduction This image made me think of Irish and Welsh mythology, so I have decided on an ekphrastic casbairdne for the form, which, although quite short, is a very difficult form, and this is my first attempt. I did find this very hard, but hopefully I made it work.

Welcome to our first Winners Announcement of the year and to the final challenge in the Fall Poetry Series. The Last Flame invited writers to sit with endings, using fire as a central image to consider what remains when something burns out: ash, warmth, memory, silence, or the faint promise of what comes next. The strongest pieces treated endings as gradual rather than sudden, allowing them to flicker, dim, and linger.
