back into the earth

my feet sink deep into the softness of the earth

my mother’s hand reaches up my leg

she wants to take me back and make me clay

bone to ashes, dust to dirt

to nourish the earth

give back all the life that was stolen

her touch is gentle as she caresses me

lulls me back to sleep

her grasp is firm as she pulls me down inside of her

all around me is familiar and dark

i don’t feel the cold nor hear the wind against the trees

silence engulfs me and comforts me

as i drift away peacefully
