A Poem

I sit here hugging the ocean

And yet

I hold nothing

Choking on tears of fear

Of futures lost

Was it just a stepping stone

A fading whim

A glimpse of a tomorrow to never come

Wading in emotion

Motionless

My heart stops

For all that is not

Could not be

A knotted little heart

Twisted around my brain

My tears disappear in the rain

She is no longer here

My heart aches for yesterday

But we continue on our circuitous path

Perhaps we’ll meet again

In the next life

Or the past
