A blank slate for creating
Another year of life
Shredding the box that I was held in
Drawing boldly outside the lines
Shedding that skin and sins, unyielding
Displaying the scars that come with time
Claiming the freedom from its healing
Remembering that what has passed
No longer holds the power
Reforming and setting new casts
Taking advantage of these hours
Learning from mistakes I’ve made
Deciding now, what’s worth repeating
Wiping clean another slate
Absolving ones brimming with meaning
Promises and resolutions
Live and learn from each endeavor
Creating new solutions
Beginning another year together
