1099
The poetry of taxation on miscellaneous income.
I am an independent contractor. Each year, I receive one or more 1099s for working independent jobs for which I have earned over $599.99. I fill out each line in my mind.
====
The form read:
1099-Miscellaneous Income
++++
Rents- I have a lease on life,
I'm not sure how long it is,
but I will do my best to keep up the property
while it is in my possession.
xxxx
Royalties- Praise given a dollar amount.
----
Other Income- Money comes in and flows out
with the regularity of the tide,
we try to prepare for both circumstances
and hope they will be approximately equal.
////
Fishing Boat Proceeds- All that comes to mind are photos of
Ernest Hemingway and John Lurie.
( )
Payer made direct sales totaling $ 5,000 or more
of consumer products to the recipient for resale-
This is a mouthful, and I'm not sure what it means.
%%%%
Crop Insurance Proceeds- I can only imagine the bitterness
with which this line is filled.
< < > >
Fish Purchased for Resale- There is an inordinate amount
of fish-related income listed on this form.
Perhaps someone in the Internal Revenue Service is a flyfisherman?
$$$$
Excess Golden Parachute Payments- Aren't they all excess,
are there some that are not, and if so,
how do you determine which is and which isn't?
{ }
Filed.

Thanks for reading, I felt like being a bit silly, but my taxes are done.

I suppose if you do have an interest in all of those things then the tax form makes perfect sense! But if not....?
1099 time for sure! Nice work. I really enjoyed this story. Keep up the good work.
