1,000 Words of Lash
Experience with hate crime related to my sexuality
By Greg WilcoxPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

We cannot pay you in laughter, we will try a smile.
We’ve felt the pain of 1,000 words of lash.
Keeping to oneself is graceful, all the while,
My confidence poisoned with hate like soda ash.
A fall and a shove, exiled to the mental isle.
In a safe space we are unsheltered in the splash.
We cannot pay you in laughter, we will try with a smile.
We’ve felt the pain of 1,000 words of lash.
Get me out, misfortune in your lifestyle.
Always unappealing, and gone in a flash.
Always, you are no fun, you are not brash.
We cannot pay you in laughter, we will try to smile.
We’ve felt the pain of 1,000 words of lash.
