Be there, or beware,

which square,

do I fit in,

to win,

at the game of life,

or at monopoly?

I remember when I was seventeen,

and all I wanted was to get married and have kids.

Getting a job was so that I could support a family.

Getting a paycheck was so that I could support a family.

Everything was family-centric,

but then the game board capsized and flew into the tornado.

Then I wasn’t in Kansas anymore,

I was dropped on the floorboards of creaking pain and frustration.

This is the journey I’m supposed to take,

this is the understanding I’m supposed to break.

I don’t think I fit into any of those squares, so I suppose I better beware.
