Shopping Cart To Go

Is It An Epidemic

Is This A Sign Of The Times

Indeed, this is a sign of the times we live in today. Since Covid, you see more and more of this happening.

Is This All That's Left

Is this all that is left of a life that most probably was a productive life at one time? Do you wonder what is the story of each homeless person that you see?

What is the story of the beggars with the cardboard signs?

Obviously, they do not want to be there standing on the street corner in all kinds of weather, and they appear to come in all shapes and sizes, and from every segment of society.

It Appears To Be Indiscriminate

Homelessness seems to appear in all walks of life. Race does not seem to be a factor. The beggars I have seen come from every walk of life, regardless of color or race.

Shopping carts and homelessness appear in every aspecot of our society. Some seem to be unkept, and some seem to be on drugs, and they all seem to appear hopeless. Whether they are just down on their luck , or they have lost hope all together , is anybody's guess.

One thing for certain is that none of them seemed to know a way out of their current situation.

I Would Like To Think

Many people who see these individuals, and they are far too many, would like to think there is a way to help them. We would also like to thing they chose this for their life, for this would let us off the hook for compassion for these individuals. Most people would choose to give up on these strangers and not see the look of despair on their faces.

I personally wonder what each of the stories are, and they certainly did not choose to only have enough clothes and possessions to fit into the shopping cart.

Law Enforcement View On Beggars

The first time I saw a beggar in this town, I actually called law enforcement and asked they if there was anything they could do to help them

There response was that most of them do better than we do, and that they do not have to pay taxes.

Is that really the case??? Of course that officer didn't have everything they owned in a shopping cart either.

The Person Lying Next To The Cart

There was a man lying next to the shopping cart in the photo above. However, I did not photograph the man lying about five feet from the shopping cart. I felt he was humiliated enough to have to sleep on the curb, next to the shopping cart with all his belongings in it.

But he was a human being, and apparently, our society is short on kindness towards humanity these days.

However, he was apparently homeless and getting some rest next to his possessions. I wondered as a was taking a photo of that shopping cart with my cell phone, if that was a cat or a dog lying there, I wonder if someone would stop to help them? Or at the very least call animal control.

However, it was a human being, and apparently , our society is short on kindness these day.

That Leaves The Lingering Question

How Can You Help A Homeless Person

What is the story behind each and every homeless person you see stand at the many intersections or street corner with a cardboard sign. Or perhaps even lying down on the side of the road, like this gentlemen was doing, on a grassy knoll on a nice day taking a nap?

They couldn't have dreamed of this for themselves, and what could they have done to have prevented it?

It is truly sad. We don't know the story of how certain people become homeless, but we can do little things to help. You have a big heart, Susan. Wanting to help the less fortunate is a very admirable trait that not many have.

We are all image bearers aren’t we? My husband always has soft granola bars to hand out to the homeless in his car

It's sad, really. It makes a community look bad when they don't take care of their own

Very sad state of affairs in our world for members of our human race need to live like this. I do want to hear their stories. Most believe it was addictions, bad choices, mental illness, but except for the grace of God, each of us could be them.
