But how should short videos express their themes and ideas?

In the Youth Photography Forum, "expression and Future of short Video works", Song Jing, dean of the Photography School of Beijing Film Academy, Gao Yang, president of China Photography Publishing House, and Fu Rui, a young photographer, discussed and exchanged these issues with Zhao Ming, Xu Liang, Chen Yang, and Zhong Mingyuan, winners of short video works in the fourth National Youth Photography Exhibition.

Song Jing said at the forum that several young photographers have been shooting a theme on the front line for a long time, and each of their short films have their own style and moving to life.

For short video creation, Gao Yang believes that short video shooting is not random, there must be themes and ideas, in which the theme, content, form of expression, inherent logic and so on are closely related.

Fu Rui, who is also a young photographer, said that young and cutting-edge photographers can pay attention to long-term documentary themes, which is actually a kind of inheritance, and the shift from static photography to dynamic images is also in line with the trend of the times.

Four award-winning young photographers also created and shared their selected short video works and expressed their views on short video creation.

Zhao Ming, the author of the next Spring, came into contact with Daliang Mountain during his freshman social practice. Seven years of teaching experience made him have mixed feelings with the land of Liangshan. Therefore, he took poverty alleviation through education as a starting point. Since 2013, he has visited 30-40 mountain village primary schools to tell the story behind poverty in the form of short videos.

With regard to short-term video creation, Zhao Ming mentioned "observation".

He believes that we should have a keen ability to observe social life and people, and be able to extract valuable characters and stories from the numerous and complicated social phenomena.

And, in the characters and stories, find the load of some kind of life emotion, life and death, love and hatred, is the common emotion of human beings, emotion is something we need to enlarge, emotional films can most move people.

Xu Liang, author of the Pastoral Doctor, saw the news about the pastoral doctor Jumatai in 2018, but the information available online was limited, so he came up with the idea of fully filming and documenting the story of Dr. Jumatai.

As for documentary short video creation, Xu Liang believes that we should broaden our horizons and select real and powerful characters and stories from life; at the same time, we need to look at social reality, pay attention to 130000 grass-roots doctors, and show the face of real China; and, we should also adapt to the characteristics of communication, "concentrated" narrative and "enhanced" images.

Xu Liang believes that in the future development of short video, the definition of its concept may abandon the time-only theory, reflect the corresponding content value standards, and have content, stories, narrative logic and image standards. it is the difference between professional creators and ordinary video content users.

Chen Yang, the author of Zhuomaga, tells the story of the ecological keeper of farmers and herdsmen in the source of the three Rivers in the form of a short video.

He believes that film and television is the embodiment of the times, and young photographers will also drive more photography lovers to keep pace with the times, let more works be seen by more people, and let more people participate in the work of protecting the Sanjiangyuan National Park. it also allows more people to understand the magnificent scenery of the three Rivers and the concept of protecting the sources of the three Rivers.

Zhong Ming, the author of Grandpa and Taihang Mountain, likes aerial photography very much. he believes that short videos are the hottest carrier of information nowadays, everyone can be creators and communicators, and high-quality short video works should have something to say. We should first tell the stories around us, let people feel the temperature with a unique perspective, and move people with sincerity.

Finally, it needs to be emphasized that short video creators should keep up with the pace of the times, create works that face the people, constantly create fine works, and tell Chinese stories well with true feelings and talents. at the same time, creators should also maintain noble personality. because the artist's moral character also represents the basic trend of the work.
