Tips on training puppies

Dogs are all different and sometime it can be difficult to figure out what behaviors or training methods will work for them. The first thing you should do is figure out the dog breed your getting, some dogs are more stubborn then others.

Small dog bred puppies are known for making a lot of pee mistakes and as such after their naps you need to immediately take them out and few minutes after their food or water you need to take them out for the bathroom. It works the same way for larger dogs but they can hold it longer.

1: What’s your dogs trigger? And what I mean by that is do they like food or toys more whichever one they enjoy the most is what you should use for training. My dogs love food so they always get low calorie treats.

2: Teaching a dog to sit. What you need to do here is to have a treat or your preferred training item and hold it over their nose, let the smell it and the more it slowly forward over their head. They should sit but some might struggle so it make a few tries, if you still can’t get them to sit just gently push their bottoms down. Don’t immediately say the command until they can sit a few times without the word and then introduce it to them.

3: The stay command is hard for a puppy to do at a young age so you might need to wait a little before trying it but get your puppy to sit if they already know that command and raised you had like a ‘stop’ sign. Take small steps back before quickly coming back to give the treat the idea here is to slowly introduce more space in between you and the dog.

4: The other basics command is down to get your dog to lay down you first have to have them sit to make it easier on them and use a treat next to the dogs nose lure it downwards until their belly is touching the ground

*Crate Training: Only put the puppy in the crate during his nap times or when you keep watch of them. To help them like the crate you have to feed the puppy inside the crate or throw treats in the crate when she is there. The most popular way to do this is to freeze peanut butter in a Kong toy and put it in with her or a bone.

*Puppy Biting: You can’t stop puppy biting as thats the only way a dog knows how to feel the words as they don’t have hands. So when a puppy bites you yelp loudly and let your hand goes limp normally that startles the puppy into dropping your hand. If that doesn’t work yelp, get up and walk away showing the puppy that you wont tolarote that behavior.

Introducing a new puppy to your dog: Always make sure to introduce your dogs away from your house and onto a neutral ground as some dogs can be protective of their homes. First keep your distance and the slowly allow the dogs to sniff each other, always look for concerning behaviors such as growling with teeth bared and stiff body languag.

These are my experiences raising my dogs, all from puppyhood to being a elder. Dogs can learn at any age but most dogs learn better at a puppy age as they are foundation to keep a puppy for acting out as they grow older, elder dogs might have trouble learning some of these basic tricks but it’s not impossible you’ll just need more effort.
