The Moment I First Saw Her
Cutie The Kitten
It was the year 2000, I can remember that sunny spring morning, as if it happened yesterday. I was all ready for school, just standing at the curb waiting for my school bus to arrive. It was about 7:15am, I recall that time because I was always able to watch 15 minutes of Saved By The Bell, before I needed to head outside, to catch the bus. As I was standing talking to some of the other kids, who took the same bus as me. I noticed my neighbour directly across the street, was holding this tiny little thing in her hand. I had no clue that cute little thing in my neighbour’s hand, would end up being my first pet kitten.
I yelled out to my neighbour “good morning what is that in your hand, is it a puppy’’? My neighbour laughed and said “come and see it’s a kitten, she is only a few days old”. I ran across the street and of course the other kids followed , as I got closer I could see that the kitten was mostly white with black around its left eye, two black ears and a dash of black on the tail. I was in ah, It was literally the cutest thing I have ever seen in my 10 years on this earth. My neighbour must have seen the look in my eyes because she then asked me if I wanted to have the kitten.
I was so excited, of course I would love to Have it. My neighbour said I needed to ask my parents, of course, so I ran right back across the street, busted my front door wide open and expressed my love for that kitten and that I wanted it so bad, i needed it so bad. To My surprise my dad said yes and that he would talk to the neighbour about it. I said, “Thanks dad” and ran back across the street to my neighbour and excitedly said “my dad said yes”. As happy as that moment was, the worst feeling came when I saw that yellow school bus, it was time to go to school. I said “bye see you later cutie” talking to my kitten of course, then realized right then and there that Cutie would be the name of my first pet.
I then ran to catch the bus and let me tell you, that school day felt like the longest day of the year. I was so excited all day at school, I told all of my friends that I’m getting a kitten. Most of my friends already had a pet or even multiple, so I was finally joining the club. It was 3:00pm and when that school bell rang, It felt like I teleported to the front entrance, where the buses were parked. I don’t even know how I got there so fast. All the kids on my route got on the bus and we were leaving, I was so overjoyed. Only about 20 minutes later I arrived on my street and it was time, the moment I’ve been waiting for since 7:25am that very morning.
I ran off the bus faster than The Flash, Barry Allen. To my surprise my neighbour was sitting out front, on her porch with a kitty litter and some small play toys, even a few tins of cat food, that was so nice of her to do that. My neighbour gave me a few ground rules and a small list of things to ask my dad to buy for Cutie. I took all the items and brought it over to my house then ran back to hold Cutie in my arms. I finally had her and yes she was a girl kitten. I thanked my neighbour so much and I was on my way home with my new best friend. Cutie was so calm in my hands then she went from 0-100 real quick. I placed her down, as I got in my house and the burst of energy I saw was outstanding. She literally ran from my front door to the living room, back and forth. She was running so fast she was sliding all over the place, I think she was just feeling out her new home. Something about that excitement and energy made me so much more happy. It was so cute to see.
My house at the time consisted of myself, my two younger siblings, both 7 years old, sister and step brother, my dad and my step mom. Everyone actually really enjoyed this special day with me, I think everyone fell in love with Cutie. I mean she did have that effect. My dad called me over to him and he explained that Cutie would mainly be my responsibility and I would need to make sure I’m on top of things when it concerns my kitten. My dad and I went to buy some kitty litter and some more food and of course he told me more rules to having a pet. When we got to the pet store I was super excited, it was so fun to pick things up for Cutie. I think I wanted everything in the store, that had to do with a cat. I had everything I needed to take care of my kitty, it was time to head back home.
When I got back into my house Cutie was literally still running all over the place. It was so funny she was so happy I could tell, i was happy too. I had a few hours left to play with Cutie because it was a school night. I did not waste any time at all, I took Cutie all over the house to see all the areas she could go, every room we went into was like a brand new experience for her, well it actually was.
I remember when it was time for dinner that night, i placed a bowl of water and a bowl of food on the ground, right beside me while i ate, we ate together you can imagine how satisfying that was for me. Time was winding down and it was almost time for bed. My dad had bought a small bed fit for a kitten so of course I fixed her bed all nice and cozy with a fluffy comfy blanket on the ground right beside me. I said goodnight to Cutie, if she could talk she would have said it back to me, this was the best day. I will always cherish this memory and it started from the first moment I saw her.
