If you own a dog, training the pet becomes imperative. However, we all know it is a bit difficult albeit rewarding process. Mostly, it can be fun and exciting. What should you do when training your dog?

• Do train where there is zero distraction — You might be aware of the sharp senses of the dogs. This is the reason they tend to get distracted quite quickly. So, if you try to train them at a place where there will be a lot of distractions around, they won’t follow your commands properly. They’ll keep getting distracted by the sounds and actions and even the smell coming from the nearby area.
• Don’t forget to reward them when required — Rewarding good actions is the best way to instigate positive behaviour in your pets. If you keep skipping this, don’t expect a consistently positive response. So, get your pet’s favourite food and reward them with a treat whenever they follow a command well.
• Do use hands and verbal actions together — Remember, you just can’t train dogs alone with words. You need to take some help from your body language as well. • Don’t plan for long sessions — A dog’s attention span doesn’t stay beyond fifteen-twenty minutes. If you plan a session longer than this period, they aren’t going to follow your commands. Spare yourself from such a waste of time.
• Do try practising commands at different locations — It is nice to let your pet get acquainted with various spots. • Don’t always scream to get your pet’s attention — An excited voice is always able to grab the concentration of your dog. • Do let your dog socialise a bit —Socialising your dog is a part of their training. You need to make it mingle with other puppies and even your friends and family. You can take your dog out for a walk daily to the nearby park and even send it to a dog care centre to build this socialising trait in them.
• Don’t stop until proper progress has been made — All dogs are different. They take their own time to learn the commands. Your session’s progress might be a bit slower. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop the training in between. Never halt the hard work until your puppy is trained perfectly.
