The curse of the talking raven

The Raven's haunting arrival

By Beni ResteaPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

In the darkest corner of a forgotten forest, there was a raven unlike any other. The raven was blacker than the darkest night, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to glow in the moonlight. This raven was not an ordinary bird; it had the ability to speak the language of humans. The other animals in the forest feared the raven, for it was said that death followed wherever it went. Locals whispered that the raven was cursed and those who crossed its path would be doomed to a tragic end. Morrigan was the name of the bird that was feared by all who knew of its existence, but it was also revered by some who believed that it brought a message from the other side. The bird would perch on the branches of dead trees and watch the world with its blue eyes. It would wait patiently for its next victim to cross its path.

One day, a young man named Jack stumbled upon the raven while exploring the forest. Jack was a curious soul and a thirst for adventure. He had heard stories about the cursed raven that haunted the forest but did not believe in such tales. He was determined to explore the depths of the forest, no matter the cost As Jack walked deeper into the forest, the trees grew darker, and the air grew colder. The sounds of the outside world grew faint, and Jack felt like he had entered a different realm. That was when he saw a large raven perched on a dead tree, watching him with its piercing blue eyes. The raven looked at Jack and spoke in an ancient and ominous voice. “Your time has come, Jack. Death is near,” the raven said. Jack laughed nervously, thinking the raven was simply a bird with a gift for mimicry. As Jack continued on his journey, he felt a sense of unease growing within him. He turned around, but there was nothing there. His breathing became labored, and suddenly the man felt a sharp pain in his chest. He gasped for air and clutched at his heart. He knew something was terribly wrong. Jack looked up to see the raven perched on a nearby branch, watching him with its blue eyes. The raven’s words echoed in his mind, and Jack knew he was doomed. He fell to the ground, gasping for breath, and watched as the raven circled above him. The bird’s caw echoed through the trees, and Jack knew his time had come.

Jack fell to the ground, gasping for breath, he knew that he was dying and that there was nothing he could do to stop it. As he lay there, the raven circled above him, cawing loudly. Jack’s vision grew dim, and he felt his body grow cold. As Jack died, the raven perched on a nearby branch and spoke to him. “Your time has come, Jack. Death has claimed you, and I am the messenger.”

The raven watched as Jack took his last breath, and then it flew away, disappearing into the forest's darkness. Jack’s body was never found, and the locals whispered that he had been taken by the raven.

Over the years, many others met the same fate as Jack. The raven continued to haunt the forest, bringing death to all who entered its territory. The people who lived nearby grew increasingly afraid, and soon the forest was abandoned entirely. Morrigan remained, perched on the dead tree, watching and waiting. It had become more than just a messenger of death, it was a force of darkness, a creature that existed solely to bring pain and suffering to those who dared to cross its path. Years went by, and the raven grew more powerful with each passing day. Its powers had expanded beyond death, and now it had the ability to manipulate the minds of those it came into contact with. It could drive people to madness, to despair, to acts of violence and self-destruction. No one dared to enter the forest anymore, for fear of what Morrigan might do to them. But he was not content to remain in the forest. It had a hunger for power, for control, and it began to venture out into the surrounding towns and villages.

People began to disappear without a trace, their bodies never found. The raven’s influence spread like a plague, infecting everyone it came into contact with. It whispered dark thoughts into their minds, driving them to comit unspeakable actions and horror. Soon, the entire region was consumed by Morrigan’s darkness. The people who had once lived there had either fled in terror or been consumed by its power. The forest and the surrounding towns became a wasteland, a place of death and despair. And Morrigan remained, perched on the dead tree, watching and waiting for its next victim, becoming a symbol of death and destruction, a creature of darkness that would haunt the land for generations to come
