Peanut Butter

A loyal friend, a ray of sunshine when your sad, and a comforter when you are not feeling well. That is what a dog is to us humans. A best friend unlike any other is what every puppy sets out to be for their people parents and siblings. This story is about a puppy just like that, a puppy named Peanut Butter. Peanut Butter is a beautiful and adventurous puggle puppy. A majestic and energetic young lady with an abundance of love for all. Peanut Butter loves the attention of everyone she meets, and she goes above and beyond to make sure they give her that attention. From laying so pretty in the grass staring at people on their front porch, to rolling over so they can rub her belly if they come close enough. Her tail is always wagging, and it gets faster as her excitement grows, sometimes spinning in circles really fast.

Peanut Butter Gets a brother

It was a normal day for Peanut Butter, she had been living at her home with her people parents for a little over a year now. She was all cuddled up in between her mom and Dad like usual in their huge comfy bed that had a limitless amount of room, or at least in her mind, Dad was usually sleeping on the edge or slightly hanging off the bed, but to her that was normal. Peanut Butter awoke bright and early on this Saturday like every other and army crawled up the center of the bed in between Mom and Dad and proceeded to give Dad his morning kisses, signaling him that it was time to wake up and take her for her morning walk.

As Dad grumbled and tried ignoring his wake-up call, one kiss directly on his mouth woke him up immediately and out of bed he jumped, all the while mumbling and grumbling about never getting to sleep in, although he has already slept 2 hours longer than he normally does on a weekday. As Dad wipes the eye boogers away and gets on his puppy walking attire for Saturday mornings, Peanut Butter is still in the bed doing her morning stretch and big yawn before proceeding to jump out of the bed and run down to the water bowl for her morning drink.

Peanut Butter was in a great mood this morning, she had a nice long walk with Dad and even got a doggy treat when they returned, with Dad telling her “Good girl, you made a big poopie!” She wasn’t too sure why Dad got so happy over her going potty, but whatever, as long as is it meant a treat. She took her treat and retreated to the living room on her spot of the couch right in the middle of where Mom and dad sit all the time.

As Peanut Butter was enjoying her treat, she noticed Mom and Dad getting ready to leave. She began eating her treat even faster, it was soon all gone and she got down from the couch and over to mom and dads’ feet with her tail happily wagging showing she was ready to go. It always broke Mom and Dad’s heart to tell Peanut Butter that she had to stay. When Dad told her, “Peanut Butter, you are going to stay here and we will be back soon with a surprise for you.” Peanut Butter’s tail immediately stopped wagging and she gave a head tilt and sad eyes. Dad leaned over and gave her a kiss on the top of her head and a pet on her back promising they would not be long. Mom and Dad always told her they would not be long, but to Peanut Butter it was always an eternity between the time they left and returned back.

Mom and Dad headed out leaving Peanut Butter to await their return. Peanut Butter went in the living room and found her favorite rope toy and took it up stairs and crawled into her bed that she graciously would allow Mom and Dad to share with her at night so they too could sleep comfortably. She curled up right in the middle of the bed and chewed on her rope toy while hoping Mom and Dad would return anytime now. As she laid there, she slowly nodded off to sleep.

The sound of tires rumbling up a gravel driveway startles Peanut Butter and she knows that means someone is here!! She thinks to herself, “is it a delivery guy? How is he going to bring food into me with no humans here to open the door? Or perhaps it is someone next door, that would not be fair, they won’t be coming to see me” she thought. As all the possibilities run through her head, she then hears the door open downstairs and she realizes mom and dad must finally be home. It felt like they were never coming back to her. She rushes down the stairs to the kitchen to find mom and dad standing there with a cage. “Oh no,” thought Peanut Butter. “They must be mad at me about chewing up that flip flop last night, and now they are going to make me live in that little cage.” She couldn’t believe it was coming to this, she couldn’t control her urge to chew that slipper and mom and dad know better than to leave such things on the floor.

A weird sound begins to come out of the cage, Peanut Butter becomes startled and her fur stands up on her back. She slightly tilts her head to the side and is now hunched down in attack position. She barks to let mom and dad know that she is prepared and will protect them from whatever is inside of that cage, which is where she has pinpointed the sound coming from. Dad kneels down next to Peanut Butter to give her some soft pets along her back and calm her down a bit. While this is happening, mom sits the cage down on the floor just a few feet in front of Peanut Butter and kneels down to open the door and reach inside. Dad says “We have brought you a brother home Peanut Butter, you are a big sister now!!” Peanut Butter looks on as mom pulls this small light grey creature out of the cage. It takes a minute for Peanut Butter to get a clear view and see a small kitten on the floor in front of her. “This is Niche” mom says as she keeps a hand on Niche to keep him from running away. Peanut Butter is not sure what to do, she slowly creeps up to the little kitten and begins to sniff and investigate him. As she is sniffing Niche he bops her on the nose with the most playful swat of his paw. Peanut Butter jumps back having been caught off guard. She then gets closer again and begins licking Niche’s face, giving him kisses. Within a few moments Peanut Butter and Niche are playing and having a blast. Peanut Butter’s mind was racing with all the fun games her and Niche could play together.

Up until this point, Peanut Butter was the baby of the house. She has other siblings, all human of course. Her big sister Ellie who didn’t stay at the same house as her, as well as Kaitlin who lived elsewhere also. Then there was the Jeffery kid that was always hiding out in the attic and made occasional appearance for food and to go outside for a bit. But Niche was the first animal brother Peanut Butter has had. She was already familiar with cats and how they like to be pulled around by their ears because her brother Jefferey had two cats of his own, Princess Orange, who was not the friendliest or most social all the time, and Boots who was only a few months older than Peanut Butter was. Now Peanut Butter was no longer the baby though, and in her mind she was both excited and worried. “Will Niche get all the cuddles now?” This is what Peanut Butter feared most in the world is Mom and Dad would give all of their attention to someone other than herself. She definitely struggled with jealousy and hated sharing her mom and Dad with anyone!!

As time went on Peanut Butter found that this was not the case, her cuddles and attention from Mom and Dad did not dwindle a bit. So she got to keep all of the love of her human parents with the added bonus of a little brother to play with and care for in her free time, when Mom and Dad didn’t need all of her attention. She often thought to herself, “these humans are so much work, always needing me to walk them up and down the street and what not.” She knew she would do anything for her human parents though, and now the same was true about here new little brother Niche, Peanut Butter’s mind raced thinking of all of the adventures her and Niche were going to have together and this made her smile.
