Saying goodbye

My best friend Jade

I don't think anyone is ever ready to say goodbye to their precious four legged best friend. I know I surely wasn't ready. But in September of 2019, I had to do this very thing. I had found her online, someone was moving out of state and couldn't take her. Her name was Jade. I fell in love with her the moment I seen her online picture. I knew she was exactly what me and my children needed. I drove and hour to meet her and instantly fell in love. She was very nervous at first. But a long the way back home she began licking me as if she also knew that she had found her forever home. She was a year old. A full bred Rat Terrier. So incredibly loving and smart.

I could tell though that she enjoyed car rides which was a big bonus because my family enjoys taking road trips. By the time we had made it to her new home my kids had just got home from school. They had no idea I was even going to get a dog. I will never forget their faces and their eyes got so big. They were so happy. They held her and she began licking them too. So many sweet kisses. My son has Autism and it was really amazing how much just this little dog could calm and relax him. We took Jade everywhere we went for the most part. To the parks, beaches, so many hotels she stayed at with us on our road trips. It felt so great knowing that we pretty much rescued each other because I knew that she would complete my family and she did.

She was thirteen years old when she died. I honestly still don't know what happened but she became sick, pretty much suddenly. She was acting fine and happy and still eating and drinking water. Then all of a sudden she quit drinking water and quit eating and I knew it was her time. I think it was her kidneys but I really don't know because it all happened so fast with her. She could no longer even hold herself up. I never left her side that day. She passed away later that evening in my arms. I feel that I gave her the best life I could. She was always happy and playing. Everyone loved her dearly. She was a blessing to our family. I feel like she is watching over us. I will forever miss my best friend.
