Nice to Sniff You

Hi. I’m Olive. It's nice to meet you! My human companion Amanda told me that I should tell you about my life. I would love to do that. I’m almost five years old and I was born on Valentine's Day! Maybe that’s why I feel so full of love. Hahaha! Anyway, I come from what Amanda calls a breeder. I was a middle pup in a litter of twelve. Before I can even remember, I was given to Amanda. I’m a very important dog, you see. A very good, important dog with a real important job. Amanda needed me to watch over her and help her if she started feeling different. I was very good at my job. Amanda and I would go everywhere together. I am such a special dog. My favorite thing was going shopping at the mall. I loved all the people and smells. I could tell Amanda liked it to. It was always a very long walk.

I was even allowed to go to the grocery store and restaurants! I loved all the different smells. I am such a good dog, though. I knew to stay right next to Amanda at all times and stay under the table at restaurants. Sometimes, Amanda would bring home treats from wherever we went. One day, I had my head stuck out the window when went through a drive-thru and the workers thought I was really pretty. They ended up giving me a free kids meal all to myself! Amanda told me that was a very special treat because I am such a good dog.

For a little while, I was even able to attend the University with Amanda. Only a few other dogs were allowed to do that. They were real good dogs too. Then, one day, a very scary thing happened. I was riding in the backseat of the car when we got into an accident. I flew forward and struck the windshield. I was so scared to ride in the car for a long time after that. Amanda told me I had to retire, so now I watch over Amanda at home and watch the house when she is gone. I have met a lot of different people with Amanda. We have even been in different states! A couple years ago, in a state called Colorado, I met Nikki. I really liked Nikki from the very beginning. Now she and Amanda are married and they have a cute puppy of there own named Edgar. He is the greatest human puppy I have ever seen! I love him very much and watch over him all the time. This is a very important job for a very important dog. I have met many others, too. I am allowed to meet anyone because I am a good dog.

My favorite thing is going to the dog park. I love meeting and sniffing all the other dogs. Sometimes, we chase each other around. I really like running in the wide open space. I have met cats, too! A few times Amanda and I lived with other humans that had cat companions and now we have some, too! Amanda and Nikki first took Amy home a little over a year ago. She was very shy when she first came home. I try to show her affection but she usually won't come very close to me. Marvel came home less than a year ago as a cat puppy. She soon became the biggest cat puppy I have ever seen! We have a lot of fun together. I love her very much and she loves me. Sometimes, we cuddle together on the couch.
