My story is indeed like most children; the desire to have ones greatest wish come true was full of hope and extreme excitement. It inspires love, friendship, kindness and most of all, the importance of having a pet.
I was seven years old, about to be eight and all I wanted from the bottom of my heart, was a little adorable black puppy.
For me, a puppy was the best pet anyone could have. Puppies are playful and fun, they are super cute and most of all, great listeners.
I was interested in German Shepherds, Bulldogs, Poodles and Rottweilers but my darling new companion was not at all what I was expecting; she was a Labrador Retriever.
Honestly, I was not even expecting to be bless with having a puppy in my life because my mother was not a fan of having a pet; she liked dogs but having one as a pet was out of the question.
One day I was at the laundromat and on my way out, under a black pickup Ford truck, there was the most beautiful puppy I have ever seen.
Her fur was a lovely light golden brown, her eyes was a mesmerising hazel, her nose and paws was purple and her smile was breathtaking.
She did not have on any collar and so, I took her from under the truck and carried her home. I knew I would have to ask the nearby neighbours about her and I wished with all my heart that she would be mine; I felt like she was destined to be mine.
I asked around and came upon the owner of what was now, my soul tied companion. Amazingly, the owner’s dog had puppies and he granted my wish like a genie in a bottle and allowed me to keep the puppy.
I was now experiencing a feeling I have never experienced before and I loved it! I thanked the good man and carried my new companion home with the biggest smile on my face and in my soul. When I got home, I told my mother everything and begged her to keep the puppy and surprisingly, her answer was not no.
Sitting on my porch, I looked my new adorable little puppy in her beautiful hazel brown eyes as the warming sun departs from the clear blue sky and called her Jahva. I wanted my new puppy’s name to have a piece of me, and because my name is Jahrina, I gave her the Jah from my name. All my friends and family thought that Jahva was a very weird name for a dog but I did not care; to me it was perfect. Yes, Jahva was indeed the perfect name for my perfectly amazing new puppy.
Jahva, unexpectedly came into my life and showed me a whole other meaning to love; she was my best friend. Jahva and I would talk and I always felt as if she understood, she was always ready to defend me if she thought that I was in danger, she was always happy to play and she would always follow me to school and come back to school when it was time to go home.
I watched my beautiful puppy grow into a beautiful dog and had puppies of her own. I am so grateful to have witnessed Jahva giving birth because it is now something I can never forget.
My Jahva, was a stray that came into my life to stay and although she is gone, she is indeed in my heart forever and my love of dogs has been multiplied and will be with me everyday.
