Lilly

How she came to be a part of our Family!

By Sandra RichardsPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Meet Lilly! She is 5 years old and very loving. Lilly is a Chihuahua Jack Russel Terrier mix. Let me tell you how Lilly came to be a part of the Richards household.

It all started one July day in 2017. I was working for a law firm helping individuals get approved for their SSI claims. It was a very stressful job. Rewarding when the cases were approved by seeing the ones who truly needed it finally get what they deserve. But very stressful when you you know they are in need and they get denied. However, it took a toll on my mental health and I had to leave that job. That is how Lilly came into the picture. I was looking for a way to handle my anxiety and depression, and have always heard of people talk about support animals. I have 3 kids and thought, well they would love to have a family pet, and I can try to see if it would help me calm my nerves.

I spoke to my husband about the idea, and he was all for it! He loves animals and we didn’t waist anytime. We went to an animal shelter. My husband was stuck on getting a boy dog. Did I mention our 3 kids are all girls? Lol. So yeah, he wanted a boy dog. We saw a boy dog but he was very “don’t come near me,” and our youngest was 1 at the time. So I was sceptical of taking him home. Then we saw Lilly. Her name was siracha or something like that lol. She was very happy to see us, didn’t bark but didn’t want to leave our sides. She was and is the sweetest dog! We all fell in love instantly.

We took her home and 3 years later... she is still the apple of all of our eyes. I do have to say... she does not help my anxiety lol, but the kids and my husband love her so much that I have to love her for bringing them the joy she has for these past 3 years. Now, Lilly is a special dog! She does this funny little creepy smile when she wants my attention. And she only does it to me! It’s the weirdest thing to see. But I do realize that she does it when I’m feeling anxious. Maybe it’s her way of getting me out of my thoughts! I don’t say this to often to my family about Lilly, but I do love her and I’m glad we got her on that one July day in 2017. Lilly is a Richards and we are proud to have her in our family!
