Less than a month for Christmas
What about spending Christmas with a cat?
I don’t particularly enjoy all the fuss around Christmas. I never celebrated Christmas, not as an adult at least. Thinking it over, when I was a teenager, my family used to gather at my uncle’s house. I would stay at home alone, watching movies. Yes, I was a sort of a rebel.
Christmas is one of the most commercially infused of all the holidays. It also seems to last forever. It also simply makes me sad at times because I remember those who are now gone. It also makes me way less tolerant, especially to noises. That includes all those annoying noises children make. Yeah, I am sort of a Scrooge. :) Not as bad as Scrooge, though. But a little of a Scrooge nonetheless.
I am a contradiction in many ways. I mostly like to be alone for Christmas but I love watching some classic movies, such as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
Anyway, what I wanted to say is that to ensure tranquility and a different environment around Christmas time this year, I will be with a lovely three-year-old sweet cat.
I will travel to Mochi’s house on 21st December and will stay with him until 29th December. Mochi and his mum moved recently to a new town so I am looking forward to exploring the new place. It’s always exciting to spend some time in a place I have never been before.
I get bored quite easily if I don’t frequently change my environment. It even affects my mood and can get me depressed. Yes, it’s true.
Mochi’s mum will be going to The Netherlands to spend Christmas and that’s why I get to spend Christmas with Mochi.
This is Mochi. Yes, he has the name of a Japanese sweet. Isn’t he lovely?

Mochi is very funny. We know each other well. We have spent time together before, when his mum had to travel. He is an absolute delight of a cat to be with and so sweet. He’s a young cat, which means he is super curious and loves to play.

Like most cats, and certainly like all young cats, Mochi loves to climb up onto any top he finds, to watch you from afar. Sometimes it’s like playing hide and seek, since he likes changing places rather quickly and quietly.

As soon as he sees I’m preparing my mobile office, he comes down to where I’m working to claim some of the space. He doesn’t let me open my laptop unless I pet him first.

Of course, then I ask him if he would let me start writing whilst he takes his nap. He graciously agreed and we proceeded to fulfill the plan.

Right after his nap, it’s pretty obvious he’s claiming his petting time followed by playing and immediately followed by a snack. It gives me great joy to see how Mochi trusts me by showing himself in a vulnerable position.

Don’t go!

By the end of our time together, we were besties. I opened my bag and started packing. Suddenly, I saw Mochi had packed himself and was ready to go.
Yes, he was looking at me with those eyes with all the intention to make me feel guilty. I kept on telling him his mum had already called and she would soon be back home, probably with a present for him.
I am looking forward to spending some good time with Mochi again this Christmas. I have some stories Mochi will like to hear; he is one of the best listeners one can ever get.
