Daily care of dog and cat ears
Why do dogs and cats develop these diseases that we don't see in humans?
In the daily feeding of puppies and kittens, not only should we pay attention to the care of the hair and nutritional supplements, the more important and common disease is the disease of the ear canal, many owners are waiting until their dogs keep shaking their heads, or constantly find a sofa or bedside position to walk back and forth rubbing the ears, more serious, almost non-stop scratching the back of the ear root with the hind limbs every day, while making some uncomfortable or even howling sounds. Other owners have reached hematoma or even purulent infection when they find problems with their baby's ears. So why do dogs and cats have these behaviors or diseases that we don't see in humans? How about prevention and care? Let's find out together.
There are many causes of ear canal diseases, including common bacterial infections, fungal infections, mite infections or mixed infections, increased humidity or temperature inside the ear canal, excessive ear wax formation, allergic reactions, endocrine disorders, abnormal keratinization, foreign body stimulation, etc., all of which may cause ear canal diseases.
1. For healthy standing ear dogs and cats, such as huskies, Samoyeds, blackbacks, corgis, etc., check the ear canal for foreign bodies at least weekly and use a mild ear oil or cleaning solution to help clean it (cleaners should avoid high levels of alcohol, which can only be used for treatment and not prevention). Prevention is better than cure.
2、For dogs with droopy ears, such as Pekinese, Pug, Labrador, Golden, Spaniel, Beagle, and Baguio, whose ear canals do not breathe easily, owners of these breeds should check and clean the ear canals frequently, and also pay extra to help lift the ears properly when the dog sleeps to expose the ear canals and let the ears breathe freely, which is an effective way to prevent ear disease.

3、For dogs with excessive ear hair in the ear canal, such as Teddy, Bichon, Chenery, Yorkshire, etc., from one and a half months, let them adapt to the touch of human fingers regularly, lift the ears, drop in the ear hair pulling powder, gently apply it to the root of the ear, evenly coat it, after ten minutes, clean the ear hair until it is hairless, then clean it with ear oil, etc. At least once a month, pull the ear hair, and clean the ear canal at least twice a week.
4, for dogs or cats with abnormal secretions or odor in the ear canal, first of all, we should ask the doctor to help check and test what causes it (all the above reasons need to be considered), and then use the right medicine for the cause, the right treatment, cleaning methods are described in the notes. It is forbidden for the owner to use medication at home at will, which eventually leads to serious drug resistance and ear canal hyperplasia in pets. A good vet will help the owner clean the ear canal in time and take the best treatment plan, saving the owner time and giving advice that is suitable for your baby.
5. For severe external otitis, if you find that your baby's ears are painful to touch or have purulent discharge, you must go to the hospital and ask your doctor for help with examination and diagnosis. The diagnosis is not complicated, but how to treat it is more complex, so please don't ignore or be careless with your owner. The doctor will help your dog deal with long-standing factors, remove dirt, and use technology to irrigate to eliminate inflammation and eliminate the infection.
Pet owners clean their pets' ears at home in six steps: 1. Pour the product into the ear canal. 2. Massage the bottom of the ear. 3. Remove excess unabsorbed liquid. 4. Let the pet shake its head freely. 5. Repeat the cleaning once. 6. Clean the ear canal with a swab dipped in the solution with a fixed swab head, leaving no dead space (always pick a good quality swab to clean it and avoid the swab head falling into the ear canal).
