CARE OF NEWBORN KITTEN

The friendly pet

By PRADEEPPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Caring for a newborn kitten is a challenging job while it is an exciting experience as well on the other hand. A newborn kitten requires attention on its every move and may lead to affect the working hours of the caretaker even after the mother cat is capable to cater most of the kitten’s needs as natural. Responsibility such as feeding the kitten, keeping the kitten warm, understanding the needs etc are prime tasks to discharge efficiently by the caretaker.

Taking kitten to home:-

Allowing a cat to express her natural behaviors and instinct is the greatest way to accommodate and create a developing relationship. If your cat wants to spend some time alone, let her. Cats prefer open spaces, such as cardboard boxes or cat beds that are readily accessible in stores. Besides at home, a soft nest can be prepared with a heating pad that is completely supported with a blanker or towel. The kittens can move out, as such ensure friendly outside as well. Used pad / cloth etc. requires changes periodically.

Find a good vet:-

To complete vaccination, deworming, flea treatment and other preventive care, a regular visit to the veterinarian is required for at least the first few months of a kitten. Contact your local veterinarian or animal shelter for assistance as you may not possess everything you need to ensure the healthy survival of a kitten. Timely immunization of a kitten under a professional is necessary as like other care. Besides if yellow discharge develops or the kitten has appeared to be troubled in breathing or eating, consult a veterinarian.

Gear up on training tricks:-

Cats place a lot of importance on scratching as a means of communication. Scratching helps the cat keep its claws neatly sharpened and leaves a visual statement. The easiest approach to prevent your favorite piece of furniture from being damaged is to provide a scratching post and make the kitten familiar with such a scratching post.

Monitor your kitten’s feed:-

Components of the mother’s milk are helpful and more nutrients for the kitten's physical and mental development. Kittens have an increased appetite and need for food due to their rapid growth. Make sure you provide your kitty with more food at par with growth and requirement. Growing up requires a lot of energy, thus a young kitten needs up to four times more calories per kg of body weight than an adult cat needs. Even kittens drink mother’s milk until she weans them as early as 3-4 weeks old, they still need water as primary source of hydration. Normally kittens grow 100 grams per week or, for newborn kittens, 10-15 gram/day. Most kittens reach 75% of their adult weight by the time they are 6 months old. Male kittens grow more quickly than female kittens do, as evidenced by the fact that by the time they are 6 and 20 weeks old, males are 7 and 21% heavier than females, respectively.

Rate and interval of Feeding :-

10 days or less : @ every two hour

11 days to 3 weeks : @ every three hours

4 to 5 week : @every 5 hours

6 weeks and more : three times a day. At this stage she would have learned to express her needs.

Familiarize Socially:-

If you decide to let your cat outside, it is advisable to wait unit it has adjusted to the new surroundings for at least two or three weeks. Unit completion of immunization series, the kitten should not be allowed to interact with unfamiliar cats/ human/ other pets etc.
