6 Special Things to Do On Your Pet's Last Day

Losing a pet is never easy.

By Sierra PowellPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Losing a pet is never easy. Watching them age can be incredibly emotional, but you should try to enjoy your last days with them. There are a handful of things that you can do as a pet owner to make their last days special, and here are a few of those things.

1. Take Pictures with Them

Taking pictures with your pet on their last day, or the days leading up to their last day can be a great idea. Especially if you took pictures with them when you first got them. You can try to recreate these pictures and see how much they have grown over time.

Getting professional photos done is an option, but it is not necessary at all. You can take pictures of your pet on your own. The point of taking these pictures with your pet is to create memories that will last forever. You will hopefully look back at these photos and remember all the good times and happiness that your pet brought you.

2. Visit Your Pet's Favorite Places

Throughout your pet's life, there may be specific places that they enjoyed. If your pet does have a couple of places that they love to visit, then you should take them to those places. Whether it be the park or their favorite store. This will allow your pet to be happy in their last few days, and it should bring back good memories for you as their owner.

If your pet doesn't have any favorite places, then maybe you can do some of their favorite activities. Whether it is cuddling or playing fetch, spend some time with your pet because you will wish you had more time with them after they are gone.

3. Make Them Their Favorite Food or Treat

Maybe your pet has a favorite food that you would treat them to every so often. Or, they had a favorite treat/toy that you would give them. If there was ever a time to make this for them, then now is that time.

Your pet should be in paradise for the last couple of days, and they will appreciate this gesture.

4. Have Their Friends Over to Play

Throughout your pet's life, they probably had some friends that they enjoyed being around. Those friends are more than likely your friends' pets. So, you should contact your friends and schedule a playdate for your pet. Your pet will love it, and it can allow your pet to say their goodbyes in a sense.

This is a great idea if your pet is up for it. If your pet is in bad shape physically, then you may want to shy away from this idea.

5. Spend Time with Them

This is an obvious one, but you must spend some time with your pet. When they are gone, you are going to wish that you had spent more time with them, so don't allow yourself to miss the opportunity.

You don't have to do crazy activities with them. You can simply sit on the couch with them. Cuddling with your pet can help relax them, and it can give you time to reflect on all the happy memories that the two of you have made together.

6. Peaceful Passing

This is not a happy thing to do with your pet, but it can be a comforting thing for your pet. Allowing them to pass away in their home can be much more comforting than having to take them to the doctor's office.

Euthanasia isn't easy for anyone involved but being in a comforting place can make it easier. If you are in the area, then you may want to look into services that do at home euthanasia in Boston.

This list of special things to do on your pet's last day depends on what kind of shape your pet is in. If your pet is physically able to do these things, then you should allow your pet to do so. Creating happy memories with your pet before their passing will make the grieving process easier, and your pet can be happy on their last day.
