Your niche is the most important thing of all.

There are four main factors that determine how much YouTube will pay you for 1 million views:

  • Your niche (we’ll only dive into this, for now)
  • Your audience
  • Your geographic location
  • The length of your videos

You can expect to earn $2 to $15 per 1,000 views on YouTube, depending the 4 factors above. The average CPM (cost per mille) is $7.60.

Choosing your niche

Choosing your niche is the most important choice you need to make, when getting started with YouTube Automation.

You can have the best videos ever, but if your niche sucks, you’re doomed for failure.

  • Bad videos + Good Niche → Success
  • Good videos + Bad Niche → Failure (or poor revenue)

What makes a niche good? There are 2 factors:

  • Most importantly: High CPM
  • Trending / popular topics

Which Niches make the most money?

Rephrased: Which have the highest CPM?

The answer is not straightforward, because YouTube doesn’t reveal these numbers. After Googling a lot, I have compiled a list of niches below that — according to what I found — have the highest CPM:

  1. Tech (because there’s a lot of money in tech)
  2. Business & Entrepreneurship / Making Money Online
  3. Educational Content
  4. Personal Finance and Investments
  5. Health
  6. Motivational
  7. Online/Digital marketing
  8. Cars & Car reviews
  9. Real estate
  10. Insurance
  11. Viral movies (e.g., Looper)
  12. Gaming (e.g., Top5Gaming)
  13. Sports (e.g., Basketball — dime)

So, get in either of these niches and you‘re off to a good start.

Important: Niche down

You must find a sub-section of your topic industry and make it your own. Be very, very specific in your niche. For example:

  1. Niche: Technology
  2. Subniche: Audio
  3. Sub-section: Headphones

Another example:

  1. Niche: Health
  2. Subniche: Flexibility
  3. Sub-section: Yoga

Don’t just go randomly posting sports videos, you gotta be very, very specific! Also, you have to do RESEARCH!

Research your niche

Once you found your topic, search on YouTube for competitor’s channels that are in the same niche.

Search the channel and sort videos by “most popular” or “most views”. This way you can see if the niche is indeed popular and running well.

Next, check VidIQ (or TubeBuddy, both YouTube research tools, look them up if you don’t know them), to see if the video is still getting a significant amount of views per hour.

Now you know that this video is getting a lot of views, it’s popular, it’s making them money!

Perfect, Now get your team to “copy” the video, but make it UNIQUE and BETTER than the original.

Repeat this process and you’re on your way! Simple enough, right?

Summarized

Get into a niche that has a high revenue potential for advertisers. This makes them happy to pay more to YouTube. High CPM = more $$$!

Get very specific while choosing your niche, don’t just choose something broad and random.

Do research, check your competitors, emulate their success.

Good luck!
