We all have something we can't part from.
Whether that be alcohol, drugs, smoking, caffeine, or gossiping.
We have that desire that we cannot give up and if we do it's like a part of us has died. We all have addictions whether we want to admit to it or not.
The first step to overcoming an addiction is admitting it is there. You can't overcome an obstacle that you refuse to believe exists. I'll admit to you my addiction has become caffeine. I struggled with needing a cup of joe every morning before I would become alive.
It controlled my morning routines.
It controlled my life.
There was no escape for me. It seemed like there was no way out of this addiction. I would wake up and not enjoy life until I had caffeine pumping through my veins. I was a zombie every day trying to get out of bed and trying to start my day.
Are you being held back by something? Is there something in your life keeping you from enjoying your time here on earth? I hope by sharing my story even though it may not be your story you can find the help you need to be free. Freedom is not free. You can read a poem I wrote about freedom here.
Freedom comes at a cost. There is no exception for anyone. That means breaking free of your addiction will also come at a cost. Nothing in life is free. The quicker we can learn that the better off we will be.
It's not an easy process learning to break free and being able to live without the chains you have been living with.
But the price you pay to be free will be worth it.
I promise.
I knew I had a problem. My body was feeling the pain of drinking coffee every day non-stop for months or maybe even years.
I did not want to give up the taste, texture, and smell of my favorite morning drink. I did not want to forget what it was like. The culture behind the drink. The lifestyle. Going to coffee shops to work. It felt like it would all be gone.
But at what cost to my body did I want to keep this addiction?
I was in pain and not living my best life. That is how I knew it was time to begin to make changes. I wanted to live a life where I was happy and healthy. I was tired of being controlled.
So I decided to say no to another cup of joe.
I wanted to start slowly. I could not just give up caffeine yet. Maybe one day. But I'm still taking baby steps into my journey to freedom. I would start by finding healthier ways to get caffeine into my body.
Just not coffee.
The acidity of the drink is what is causing my problems so I would experiment with cutting that out.
This is by no means a scientific approach and is in no way informed by a doctor. I'm just trying things that I believe will help me.
My only advice to you is to try.
Don't give up if you fail. Take a failure as a step back, not an end. Just because you stepped backward does not mean you can't take another step forward. So no matter where you are in your walk towards freedom know you are not alone and you can achieve your dreams.
