Once upon a time in ancient Greece, Hercules, the son of Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmene, was born. He was granted incredible strength and courage. But soon, his uncle Hera, wife of Zeus and queen of the gods, became jealous of Hercules and sought revenge.

Hera sent two snakes to kill Hercules as an infant, but Hercules was strong enough to kill them with his bare hands. This fueled Hera’s rage. She then sent a series of laborers to test Hercules’s strength and ensured they were impossible to complete.

Hercules’s first labor was to slay the legendary lion of Nemea. This lion was said to be so strong that no weapon could pierce its hide. But Hercules was determined to fulfill his task. He strangled the lion and took its skin as a trophy. Eventually, he created a cloak that was impenetrable and indestructible it.

For his second labor, Hercules was tasked with eliminating monstrous, man-eating birds living in Lake Stymphalia. To do this, Hercules used the sound of his trumpets to scare them into the sky, and then Hercules shot them with his arrows.

The third labor was the capture of the infamous Cerynean hind, a magical golden-horned deer. Hercules chased the deer for an entire year until he was so tired he fell asleep. But even then, the deer stayed put, and Hercules was able to capture it.

Hercules’s fourth labor was to capture the beast of Erymanthus, a massive boar in the mountains that terrorized the locals. Hercules tracked the boar and used his incredible strength to drag the boar back to the palace.

The fifth labor was the cleaning of the Augean stables in one day. This was an impossible task, as the stables had years of build-up. Hercules channeled two nearby rivers and used their force to clean the stables and rid the area of its putrid smell.

The sixth labor was killing the Lernaean hydra, a nine-headed serpent with venom-spitting heads. Hercules used fire to ‘seal the wounds’ of the hydra and struck off each head one by one while his trusted friend, Iolaus, held a torch over his shoulder to cauterize the wounds.

The seventh labor was the capture of the Cretan bull. Hercules rounded up the beast and took it back to the palace.

The eighth labor was the taming of Diomedes’ man-eating horses. Hercules fed the horses human flesh and stole the bridles from their stalls. When Diomedes came looking for his horses, Hercules angrily threw them into a pit and fed him to his horses.

The ninth labor was retrieving Hippolyta’s girdle, a powerful accessory. Hercules bravely fought his way through her army of Amazon warriors and managed to retrieve the girdle.

For his tenth labor, Hercules was asked to steal the cattle of the giant Geryon. Hercules bravely chased Geryon across the country, up mountains, and across the sea, eventually killing him and securing the cattle.

The eleventh labor was retrieving the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides. Hercules found his way into the garden by enlisting the help of Atlas, who had no choice but to help Hercules or risk being turned to stone.

The twelfth and final labor was the capture of Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld. Hercules descended into the underworld and fought his way to the entrance of Hades. With strength, courage, and wit, Hercules subdued Cerberus without hurting the guard dog and returned him to the palace.

And so, after completing all twelve of these labors, Hercules returned to Olympus with pride and honor. He had proven himself the strongest and bravest of all the gods. He had earned his place among the gods and was now the champion of all of Greece.
