The Required Qualities Of A Good Leader
Can you be a good leader?
No one is born a leader. You become a leader at some point by emphasizing certain qualities with which you were born. Some traits that make you stand out can be acquired or learned throughout the various experiences you undertake.
Others, on the contrary! You are simply born with them, and when an opportune situation arises, you capitalize on them. There are a lot of skills that help develop such a profile. To find out if you already belong to such a profile or are about to join one, you must first know what a leader looks like.
Here are some of the main character traits that set it apart from others:
Acute desire to accumulate new information
A leader has the spirit of adventure in his blood. A leader likes to take risks, and in his actions, he is driven by the desire to explore and break old patterns.
A leader will always be stimulated by the desire to know as much as possible, to challenge the status quo, to fight for what he believes. Its internal nature works on the principle of accumulating as much information as possible.
The hunger for knowledge is the strong point of a leader. As long as the novelty does not frighten him and sees in the new data the source of his success, he will manage to face the unforeseen and situations of any degree of difficulty, he will know how to communicate with any kind of people and he will gain numerous privileges.
A proactive attitude
Whether we are referring to a positive attitude, whether it is self-confidence or simply optimism, a leader identifies in the person of the one who says no to a challenge.
Nothing is impossible for him! The positive side of his thinking is one of his most important traits. This determines him to succeed in what he set out to do. A person who thinks positively has a very high chance that when he encounters problems and difficult situations, he will easily overcome them and choose the optimal solution.
For such a person, resolving a conflict, managing time, setting priorities, overcoming crisis situations, imposing personal opinion when necessary, negotiating with people, all are things that require minimal effort. Sometimes the solutions simply come naturally…
Effective communication
A leader always knows how much communication matters and will never underestimate it. Communicating means interacting, agreeing, contradicting, negotiating, imposing one's point of view, motivating, inspiring trust, encouraging, criticizing, etc.
Whether it's relationships with superiors or subordinates, a leader will consider his interlocutor. In such cases, effective communication takes the form of empathy, focused attention on the interlocutor, the manifestation of real interest in the person.
And when these signals are accompanied by a confident and hesitant look, a discreet smile, a determined tone of voice, and a firm handshake, communication will surely be effective. A leader must know how to motivate, criticize and praise.
Communicating openly, he will criticize without risking being "too critical", he will coordinate and motivate the activity of an entire team without exaggerated praise and without excessive zeal.
Power of persuasion
It is more than necessary for a leader to know how to convince people, to make them trust themselves, their person as a leader, and the success of their activities.
Most of the time, a leader will not be easily influenced by other people and will not change his opinions in favor of those coming from a subordinate only when they are accompanied by solid and viable arguments. The ability to influence one's peers is one of the strengths of a boss.
A subordinate will give the boss a vote of confidence for several reasons: because of the position conferred by his position, the power he has, the ability to confer certain freedoms and facilities, the results obtained so far, the people he takes perfected and the personalities he modeled.
When a person sees in the boss a model worthy of following, implicitly he will give him his vote of confidence. It is the moment when the leader imposes himself and is respected …
Ambition
When proportionate to the ideal amount, ambition can be the miracle ingredient of a successful leader. A leader must follow the goal he set for himself and determine the others to mobilize in this regard. Any goal must be translated into concrete results, and ambition is exactly the wheel that mobilizes the whole mechanism.
Ambition can be a positive thing towards success. It is the impetus that helps you succeed in what you set out to do. But when it is linked to an exaggerated desire for profit and a motto such as "purpose excuses means", ambition can lead to bribery or corruption.
From the desire to materialize all your plans, you may find that you do not pay attention to those who deserve it. At that moment, the leader snaps.
To these character traits, we can add many more without fearing that they are too few. I am not sure if these are indispensable and how much we can bet on new ones, but I am very sure of one thing: a leader always knows when and how to be a leader. Without wondering why!
A person endowed with the gift of leadership will always know when to speak, when to show flexibility and when not when to make suggestions, and when to be silent. A true leader will often make the right decision at the right place and time.
If you find yourself among these traits and you have not yet managed to highlight your leadership qualities, find out that it is never a waste of time to act accordingly. And when a chance arises, no matter how small, take advantage of it. Maybe that's exactly what you need.
