The Power Of A Small Dream

A Small Dream

By Hamid Hussain ShahPublished 9 months ago 4 min read

Once in a small village, there lived a boy named Sami. He was 12 years old and lived with his mother and younger sister.

His family was poor, but they were happy. Sami loved school, but he had to walk five kilometers every day to reach it.

Sami’s shoes were old. Sometimes, his feet would hurt. But he never missed a single day of school.

He believed that one day, his life would change. His biggest dream was to become a teacher and help other poor children learn.

The Problem At Home

Sami's mother worked hard to take care of the family. She washed clothes for people in the village.

Every night, Sami helped her by washing dishes and taking care of his little sister. Life was not easy, but Sami never complained.

One evening, his mother looked very tired. She said, “Sami, I don’t think I can send you to school next year. We don’t have enough money.”

Sami’s heart sank. School was his favorite place. He was quiet for a moment and then said, “Don’t worry, Mama. I will find a way.”

A Simple Idea

That night, Sami could not sleep. He kept thinking, “How can I earn money and still go to school?”

The next day, he went to the village market. He saw a man selling pens and pencils. People were buying them for their children. Sami got an idea.

He asked the shopkeeper, “Uncle, can I buy some pens at a low price and sell them at school?”

The man smiled and said, “That’s a good idea. I’ll give you a few pens for a small price. Try it.”

Sami bought ten pens and went to school the next day. At lunch, he told his classmates, “I have some nice pens. You can buy one if you want.”

To his surprise, he sold all the pens!

The Small Business Begins

Sami started selling pens, pencils, erasers, and even small notebooks. Every week, he made a small profit. He saved the money and gave some to his mother.

His teachers noticed his hard work. One teacher, Miss Lina, asked, “Why are you selling these things, Sami?”

He replied politely, “Ma’am, I want to stay in school. My family is poor, so I’m trying to help.”

Miss Lina was touched by his honesty and courage. She told the other teachers about him. Soon, all the teachers began buying small items from Sami. Some even gave him books and clothes.

Learning More Than Books

Through his little business, Sami learned more than just math and science. He learned about honesty, hard work, saving money, and dealing with people.

Sometimes, his friends made fun of him. They said, “You are just a seller, not a student.”

Sami didn’t listen. He smiled and said, “I am both. I sell to stay in school and study to build my future.”

A Kind Stranger

One day, a man from the city came to the village. He was visiting for a project. He saw Sami selling items outside the school and asked, “Why aren’t you playing like other kids?”

Sami replied, “I’m helping my family. I want to become a teacher.”

The man was very impressed. He gave Sami a card and said, “Call me if you ever need help. I run a school in the city.”

Sami thanked him and kept the card safe.

A Big Test

At the end of the school year, Sami took his final exams. He studied hard every night. When the results came, he had the highest marks in the school.

Everyone was proud of him. His mother cried tears of joy. She said, “You did it, my son. I am so proud.”

The village head heard about Sami and gave him a small scholarship to help with his studies. His teacher, Miss Lina, also started a fund to support him.

The Call That Changed Everything

Sami remembered the man from the city. He told his mother, “Can I call him now?”

She nodded, and Sami used a neighbor’s phone to call. The man remembered him and said, “Sami! I’ve been waiting. I want to give you a free seat in our school in the city.”

Sami was shocked. He had never been to the city. But he knew this was a big chance.

A New Life in the City

Sami moved to the city and joined the new school. It was big and modern. At first, he felt shy.

But soon, he made friends. He studied hard and used the library every day.

Even in the city, he continued his small business. He sold bookmarks, pens, and paper to classmates.

The teachers in the city also loved his passion and helped him with books and food.

Dreams Come True

Years passed quickly. Sami finished high school with top grades. He went to college with a full scholarship.

He studied education and finally became a teacher—just like he had always dreamed.

He returned to his village and opened a small school for poor children. He named it “The Dream School.”

He said, “This school is for children who dream big, like I did.”

Sami helped many children who could not afford education. He gave free classes, books, and food.

The villagers respected him, and he became a hero.

Message from Sami

One day, during a speech at his school, Sami said:

“Never give up on your dreams. Even if you are poor, even if life is hard—keep going. Work hard, stay honest, and believe in yourself.

A small dream can grow into a big success if you stay strong.”

The Lesson of the Story

Sami’s story teaches us many things:

Never give up, even when life is difficult.

Believe in your dreams, no matter how small.

Work hard and stay honest.

Help others when you succeed.

Education is the key to a better life.
