Success,
Success is a very difficult and hard talking word, many years of growing up and wishing to have the “rich cars and nice houses”.
Now that I’ve grown up success is a huge word, one of the most challenging, hard, mentally draining words I know.
Growing up as a young fella I used to go to work with my stepdad to construction sites. Big houses nice cars and I use to look at them and think wow, I want that. As I’ve grown older it really has hit hard, I now know the lengths people go to have the things like that.
In my eyes success is comfortably being able to afford and maintain them big houses and nice cars, with 6 or so months with a full time job, most people can get a loan for a nice car, and borrow there full capacity for a big house.
It really hit me that I wanted to be a comfortable wealthy individual and be smart with my money when times got hard at home and I could see Financial stress coming from my mum, which was very hard.
As I got older, I would always be thinking about how I can make money. One day I was on the job site and my brother told me about him mowing lawns when he was younger.
Sure enough I convinced mum she needed a new mower. I walked around my small country town katandra west 3630, and went door knocking asking if they needed there lawns mowed or any odd jobs done.
With that money I earnt from lawns I admit I did what every other kid would do and spent it on my hobby’s.
It also taught me that it’s so hard to make money but yet so easy to throw it away on unnecessary things. That’s how we learn though. Right?
Year 12 come,
I was definitely not the smartest and definitely not a good influence to the kids that wanted to learn and do well in school.. hence why I dropped out in the middle of year 12 to start a bricklaying apprenticeship.
I soon adapted to the hard working life. Start in the dark and finish in the dark.
But one thing that I really stuck to me was, one day my brother told me to save $20,000 and I could buy my first house. That day was a turning point in my life. After that day my mind was all about that $20,000.
About a year later,
I finally had enough to buy my first house, I found a nice and cheap home in a town Mooroopna. $242,000.
As soon as I moved in I was straight into the renovating. First thing I did was getting the landscaping right. Very nice grass with very neat rocks and trees do it for me. In my head I chasing that equity so one day I could buy another house. The year of 2019 is when the covid hit and everything changed, know one actually knew what was going to happen with realestate, people started to sell because they thought houses were going to be a all time low. But the total opposite happened. with renovations I did had added plenty of equity . House prices went crazy, Mooroopna house went from $242,000 to $380,000 just like that!
I could taste success.
I followed in my brothers foot steps once again.
I started up a pressure washing business on the weekends as well as doing my apprenticeship during the week.
Earning $700 a week. With a mortgage and now a car loan because my old 1996 “sports” car blew up was becoming hard. I was now actually feeling financial stress.
I got my first house to wash for Greg Pearson builders. I had a $12 broom and a drum of hydrochloric acid that cost me $25, I borrowed a pressure washer from my friend. Must say it was the longest 12 hour day of my life, cold and raining, soaked from head to toe but i was thinking of the money! 12 hours later i earnt $1240, yep $1240 in 12 hours! It’s crazy! That’s 2 weeks of work in 12 hours! I was onto something…..
After that I went around all the new estates after work and messaged the company supervisors to see if they needed a brick cleaner.
I started to get the calls, washing bricks Saturday’s and Sunday’s, after a month in the pressure washing business I saved up $5000, I finally had enough to purchase my own pressure washer with all the up to date equipment, made life and work so much easier!
As time progresses I got much quicker. From 12 hours to wash a house to 8 hours than from 8 to 5 hours, I finally had a successful side business that not many people had.
Sure enough sherridon homes contacted me to wash one, Sunday I went to benella to wash it. Monday had a call to say how great it was and they gave me 4 houses to wash. It started from there I constantly had 2 every weekend, even 3-4.
From making $700 a week, to making $2500 a weekend I really felt like I had made it, I felt the success, I must say money is so addictive.
14 months after buying my first home I had saved up another $40,000, I was so hungry for that next house.
I went in to see my bank manager to see if I was in the position to purchase my next, the good news was there for me and I couldn’t of been any happier. Down side was I had to pay out my $29,000 for my Ute. But in my head It was bad debit and I didn’t ever want it risking me from not moving on in life with that hanging over my head.
So I paid the loan out and the bank was happy with that so I got approved for a house I’m purchasing in katandra west.
2 houses at the age of 22. I feel like I have lots more to improve and succeed in life.
It’s never to late to have a crack.
Thanks for listening to my story.
