Forget New Year’s
Forget New Year’s resolutions—I say spring is where it’s at. Why? Because, that’s when everything truly begins... Sleepy trees are smiling, awakening to find they’ve sprouted brand new buds. Seeds that silently germanated throughout the winter, are now starting to break through even the toughest ground. Everything gets a new chance—everything begins anew. So, that means we can too.

Purging 2020 Energy Through 5 Easy Tasks
Full disclosure: I have no idea what I'm doing. I am a middle-aged suburban(ish) working mom, and in 2019, Netflix told me that Tidying Up With Marie Kondo was required viewing for all of us middle-aged suburban(ish) working moms. But I totally blew off the assignment and went to the mall with my friends instead. From what I've pieced together from the other middle-aged suburban(ish) working moms who actually do have their life together (or at least pretend well), Marie Kondo is an organization expert who suggests that if an object doesn't spark joy, it shouldn't be in your home.

Solitude By Design
My husband went to college for accounting. So, I learned the meaning of the rhyme, dog name sounding, accounting term LIFO FIFO early in our marriage. It simply means “Last In, First Out.” The revised version for his wife: “If you bring something into the house, take something out of the house.” A Hoarder, he is not.

Da Vinci Procrastinated Too
I write full time, which is a bold move on my part because, well, I am a high-functioning mess of a human and a procrastinator down to my core. As if the very bones of my body seemingly forget how to start work but know how to end up mindlessly scrolling down a stranger’s Instagram for hours.

A Big Mess
Best tip I can give for spring cleaning is make a mess! Take everything out of their hidey holes. Thow everything on the ground. Leave nothing untouched! I mean everything even your toothbrush, which you probably need a new one anyways. Scoot those shameful things you have been hiding underneath your bed. Hell, even displace the furniture. Reck the house like your name is Ralph! This sounds counter intuitive I know but trust me.

Why do their opinions bother me?
Has anyone ever said to you "who cares about their opinion?" to try to make you feel better? Then you think about it, and it logically makes sense, but for some reason you still care anyways. You can't stop caring. It just bothers you so much. You may even get empowered for a couple of days and go back to caring about people's opinions of you again.

A Room With One Window
Have you ever found yourself so overwhelmed by the chaotic anxieties of life, that you felt that the sky above had collapsed upon you, and now the floor below you was replaced with molten lava. No, well the few overthinking souls that have, will understand the importance of slowing your racing mind down. The way to not only slow time down, but make more time where there isn’t any, starts simply with stopping. Yes, stopping and reevaluating what is the major priority at the moment, and what can be pushed to the back burner. Back when I was in college, I wanted to function as a beehive whilst being one person; it didn’t end up so well. But yet it did, because it taught me that when one is trying to extinguish a fire, they must prioritize what is key, and then fan out the flames from there.

Ah, Spring!
Ah, Spring. The frost is thawing, the birds start chirping, the weather is warming and... it's time to clean. All of a sudden, it seems that everything you’ve put off for the winter months (man, I wish that was the holiday weight) has made its way into a giant “to-do” list. Make some coffee, put on some music, and put your hair in a bun, it’s time to get cracking!

And You Shall Know the Truth
I grew up on a little island thinking I was just a descendant of slaves, and only if I studied history at the university level would I have learned otherwise. We were not taught any in-depth history about our ancestors before slavery, and so it seemed we had none. And so the views of us descending from monkeys, or living in the wild wing on trees like monkeys stuck deep. Because let's face it when you know and believe that story of nothingness, it then becomes very easy to be docile and accepting of any basic existence you are offered.
