Simple Things Make Us Happy:
My Top 8 Daily Habits That Make Me Happier Every Day

Do you ever really stop to think about happiness?
I hope you do — because I think about it every single day. Happiness makes us feel free, comfortable, and safe. It’s amazing how this one small word can have such a powerful impact on our lives.
Most of us spend a lot of time searching for happiness in big achievements: starting a business, getting a dream job, becoming “better” than others. For many years, I thought that was the answer too.
But after years of self-reflection, reading motivational books, and observing my own life closely, I’ve realized something simple but powerful: happiness isn’t always about the big things. In fact, for me, happiness lives in the small daily routines that I used to overlook.
Here are the 8 little things I do every day that bring me happiness — maybe they’ll spark something in you too.
☕ 1. Morning Coffee & the Familiar Dog Outside
Every weekday morning, I wake up at 8:30, open the window, and see the same French bulldog being walked. I’ve watched this adorable dog in various cute jackets for seven months now, and I never get tired of it.
I started combining this happy moment with a hot cup of coffee on the balcony (when it’s not too cold). It’s become a little ritual that makes my morning feel peaceful and warm — like the world is greeting me kindly.
💏 2. Morning Hugs & Kisses
I’ve been living with my boyfriend for seven months now, and we start every day with the same ritual: hugs and kisses. It’s simple, but it changes everything. Morning affection can boost dopamine, strengthen your immune system, and even improve your mood and productivity. But most importantly, it makes me feel loved and connected — every single day.
🎧 3. Affirmations on the Walk to Work
I walk about 20 minutes to work, and recently, I swapped music for morning affirmations. I downloaded a few simple audio tracks with uplifting messages and started listening to them as I walk. It’s been a game-changer. I show up to work with more confidence, better energy, and a more positive attitude. Affirmations help me shift my mindset in a powerful way — and it only takes 20 minutes.
📚 4. Reading During My Lunch Break
Since childhood, I’ve loved reading. But life got busy, and I stopped making time for it. Lately, I’ve brought books back into my life, and now I read every day during lunch with a cup of tea and some cookies. For 20–30 minutes, I completely disconnect from work and disappear into a story. It relaxes me, inspires me, and brings me pure joy. Sometimes, I even write down my thoughts after finishing a book — just to remember how it made me feel.
✍️ 5. Writing Stories
Even though I studied engineering ecology, not writing or journalism, I’ve always loved writing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I took a copywriting course and tried to write professionally. It didn’t work out — and I gave up for a while. But in 2023, while studying in Switzerland, I started writing academic papers in English, and that sparked something in me. I came home and realized I still had so much I wanted to share. I began writing personal stories again — not for money, just for joy. Writing helps me process emotions and connect with others. It’s one of the most fulfilling things I do.
🚿 6. Hot Showers After Work
I always feel cold (yes, I sleep in socks!), so I live for hot showers. After a long 10-hour workday on my feet, there’s nothing better than standing under warm water and letting the stress melt away. Sometimes I stay there just thinking, breathing, and feeling the warmth. It relaxes my body and clears my mind. It’s a small luxury that means so much.
🥘 7. Evening Talks During Dinner
My boyfriend and I are different when it comes to communication — I love to talk, and he’s more reserved. But every evening, we cook dinner together, watch something on YouTube, and talk. We share what happened during our day, how we’re feeling, and sometimes even plan for the future. These conversations help us connect and understand each other better. It’s something I really look forward to.
🐇 8. “Bunny Time” with Archi
We recently adopted a tiny 3-kilo decorative rabbit named Archi. He’s been part of our family for two months now, and he brings us so much joy. When we come home from work, we always spend about 40 minutes just watching him hop around, petting him, and playing. I call it “Archi Time” — or sometimes “Archi Therapy.” There’s something magical about bonding with a soft, gentle animal. It instantly makes me feel calmer and happier.
🌟 Final Thoughts
Happiness doesn’t always come from the big moments. More often, it’s hiding in the little routines — a cup of coffee, a kind word, a warm shower, or a bunny hopping around your room. These eight things don’t cost much. They don’t require a fancy lifestyle. But they make my life brighter, more meaningful, and more joyful.
I hope this inspires you to look for the little things in your own daily routine — and maybe even create some new ones. Because sometimes, the smallest things bring the biggest happiness.
